Growing up, I only had one nickname that stuck. It didn’t even stick that well because only one person called me by it. My Grandma. She called me Sunshine ever since I was itty-bitty. And I loved it!
She even sang, “Your are My Sunshine” to me because of my nickname. It was my song. It still is in a way.
I always thought that she made that song up just for me. One day, when I was 10, I heard someone else singing it. How dare they sing my song!
It was heartbreaking to find out that my Grandma hadn’t made that song up just for me.
Because of that nickname, I’ve always loved sunflowers. It isn’t how they look, it is because they make me think of my grandma and my nickname. I love my grandma. She still is a good friend and I am so happy that I got to grow up right down the road from her.
