Giraffes are super cute and this 12 inch ruler will sure make any giraffe lover happy.
This SVG file is made to be cut out of wood using a Glowforge or another laser cutter.
I made this cartoon giraffe ruler to give to a teacher for an end of the year gift. So one of the rulers pictured is personalised with with the year, teaches name, and my daughters handwritten name. There is plenty of room for you to add a laser engraved quote or whatever you want.
You will need:
- ⅛ inch wood
- Paint
- Masking Tape
- 400 Grit Sandpaper
- Clear Sealer
- Laser Cutter (Get up to $500 off a Glowforge)
- Wet Paper Towel
- Paper to protect the counter from paint
- Credit Card
Prep the wood so you can cut out the wooden ruler
Step 1
To prep the wood, sand the wood on both sides until it is smooth

Step 2
Paint the wood with laser-safe paint. I used acrylic paint and chalk paint.

Step 3
After the paint dries, sand the wood again to make it smooth. Be sure to wipe down the wood with a damp paper towel to remove any dust. Keep painting and sanding the wood until you are happy with it.
Step 4: (Optional)
Apply a clear protective coat to the front and back of the wood.

Step 5:
Apply the masking tape to the front and back of the wood. Be sure to use a credit card or vinyl scraper to make sure it is stuck down well.

Cut out the Giraffe Ruler
I use a Glowforge but any laser will do.
Step 1: Set up the cut
Set the ruler lines to engrave. My settings are speed- 800, power- 80
Set the outline to cut. My settings are Speed- 150 and full power

Step 2:
After the cut, remove the mask.
Now you’ve got a cute giraffe ruler to add to your collection!
